Speaker AMan.
Speaker ATengan se allijado de las cuertas.
Speaker AHey everybody, thanks for joining us.
Speaker AI'm Tim Scott joined by his lovely wife dawn and we're here to talk about recent travel experience.
Speaker AWe had one was a great time.
Speaker AIt was abbreviated but we knew that going in.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker AI think we're probably safe saying what we were.
Speaker AWe attended would.
Speaker BI think so.
Speaker ALet's bring it up.
Speaker AOur niece had a wedding.
Speaker BShe did.
Speaker BShe got married.
Speaker BYay.
Speaker BAnd as a bonus, your mom has three granddaughters and they're all getting married within this next year pretty much.
Speaker AThat is true.
Speaker AThat is crazy.
Speaker BIt is crazy to think that the grown up.
Speaker BI don't know when that all happened, but my goodness, they to me still seem like little babies around the Christmas tree.
Speaker BExcited.
Speaker AOh, I know.
Speaker BBut anyway.
Speaker BBut it was such a fun time so we wanted to talk about it.
Speaker AAnd there were lots of travel things happened during this trip.
Speaker ALots of.
Speaker AI think we're gonna have lots of good tips to share at least what we did.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker AYou know if you want to attack it this way or not.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo I'll let you talk about the flights because you booked the flights.
Speaker BI did.
Speaker AAnd this is a very quick trip.
Speaker AWe had to fly down on Friday.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BFriday afternoon.
Speaker BBecause we had things going on while.
Speaker BWork and everything.
Speaker AYeah, work.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker BSo it was just a two night trip.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BWe went to Florida and we looked at all the airlines and we picked Breeze.
Speaker BThey had the best prices.
Speaker BWe had flown Breeze before and we had flown Breeze in the ascent seats, which are the front seats that were super nice but the airfare was really expensive this time of year.
Speaker BAnd that was not in the Scott family budget.
Speaker ANo, it was not.
Speaker BBut.
Speaker BAnd I don't really.
Speaker BI'm not.
Speaker BI'm a people person if I know the people or I'm like getting to know the people.
Speaker BBut I am not sit by a stranger kind of person at all.
Speaker BI have some germaphobia issues and whatever.
Speaker BI love Breeze because they're a two seat by three seat plane.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BSo you and I could sit in the two seat side and not have to worry about it.
Speaker BThat worked out great for us.
Speaker BSo we just sat back in regular coach and we are not tiny people.
Speaker BSo we were a teeny bit concerned about where are we going to comfortably fit in an airplane seat.
Speaker AI'm just going to leave this out there though.
Speaker ATinier than before.
Speaker AThat's all I'm going to say.
Speaker BYes, tinier than before.
Speaker BSo we thought we'll give it a try.
Speaker BAnd to our surprise and delight, we fit very comfortably.
Speaker BI thought it.
Speaker BI mean, the breeze seats, I think they sit a little more upright maybe than most plain seats.
Speaker AThey might.
Speaker BI'm not sure, but it was super comfortable.
Speaker BYou and I were just fine on the.
Speaker BOn the two seat side.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker ASo we didn't have the extra leg room.
Speaker BNo, we didn't.
Speaker BWe could not afford that.
Speaker BThe flights were so expensive, so we just did the regular.
Speaker BBut we did pick our own seats.
Speaker BWe did pay to pick our own seats so that we had two seats together.
Speaker BWe wanted that for sure.
Speaker BAnd we only needed one checked bag.
Speaker BSo that was because it was just two nights.
Speaker BWe flew out of Akron Canton.
Speaker AYeah, that's our.
Speaker ABy the way, if you can fly out of a regional airport close to you and breeze happens to come in there, take advantage of it because it's like, what, 15 minutes from the house, probably.
Speaker BYes, something like that.
Speaker BBut I will tell you, with breeze on your boarding card, it will say what time they start boarding and what time boarding ends pay attention.
Speaker BBecause they're not playing.
Speaker BNo, they get in, they get out.
Speaker BThey are.
Speaker BWe.
Speaker BThey've been on time all the times that we've flown them so far, but this time was a new experience.
Speaker BWe had what was called a breeze through.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BSo this flight went from Akron Canton to Myrtle Beach.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BAnd almost the entire plane got off.
Speaker BIt was a full flight.
Speaker BWe were really, really shocked that there was only five of us going on to Orlando.
Speaker AI thought maybe 10 people would get off the plane.
Speaker BOh, yeah, it was a lot of.
Speaker APeople that got emptied out.
Speaker BYes, it did.
Speaker BAnd staying on the plane was fine.
Speaker BThey asked us to stay in our seats.
Speaker BThey do a passenger count to make sure the correct passengers stayed on the plane.
Speaker ACount to five.
Speaker BThey did.
Speaker BAnd then they started, you know, boarding pretty quickly.
Speaker BBut those flight attendants, the entire time that they were like.
Speaker BAs soon as people started deplaning, they were like getting the seatbelt set up.
Speaker BThey were trying to get trash because people don't listen and throw their trash away.
Speaker BEven though they begged them to please make sure they left nothing behind.
Speaker BThey were checking everything, kind of spot cleaning to make sure they were moving.
Speaker ALike, we should have helped because we were.
Speaker AI did.
Speaker BI was like, well, I don't know.
Speaker BBut they were moving.
Speaker BAnd.
Speaker BAnd all the breeze flight attendants that we have ever encountered have just been super friendly and nice and fun.
Speaker AGreat.
Speaker BYou know, it was kind of funny.
Speaker BEspecially as a teacher, I found this very humorous because even as adults, we don't follow directions.
Speaker BShe had said multiple times to please keep your seat belt on because it's an active Runway.
Speaker BDo not remove your seat belt until the seat belt sign has been turned off.
Speaker BWe're parked, parked at the gate.
Speaker BPlease do not do that.
Speaker BAnd we were still taxiing toward the gate and several people.
Speaker BYou heard the little seat belt come undone.
Speaker BShe gets on there and she goes again.
Speaker BWe're on a taxiing Runway.
Speaker BThose of you that have detached your seat belts, please reattach them.
Speaker BThat's the first time I'd ever heard a flight attendant.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BMake that comment.
Speaker BBut that made me laugh.
Speaker BAnd I'm like, they really value safety.
Speaker AThey do.
Speaker BSo I like that.
Speaker BBut then we went on to Florida.
Speaker AOh, can I.
Speaker ACan we point out real quick?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AThe planes have always been spotless too.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker BClean.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BWe have not had nothing.
Speaker ANothing bad.
Speaker ANothing bad to say.
Speaker AIt was very clean.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker BTwo thumbs up for breeze for both of us.
Speaker BSo we get to Orlando.
Speaker BThat was fine.
Speaker BWe were on time.
Speaker BEverything was great.
Speaker BWent down, picked up our bags.
Speaker BAnd then you did the rental car.
Speaker BSo you want to talk about the rental car experience?
Speaker AWhen we first thought we wanted to do this, and I don't know if you were even sure we were going to go, but I thought, let's book a rental car.
Speaker AIs.
Speaker AWe're very specific.
Speaker AWe love to travel in a minivan if we can, if it's not cost prohibitive.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AAnd this was about the same price as like a mid sized car.
Speaker ABut I was able to get through, go through Alamo.
Speaker ASo shout out to Alamo.
Speaker AIf you're happened to be looking for a rental car, check out Alamo.
Speaker AAnd they're also one of the ones that are in terminal.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BThat was important.
Speaker BI don't want to shut.
Speaker ANo, we don't want to shuttle.
Speaker AWe just want to get out to the car.
Speaker AAnd this is the first time I think we've had the option before, but I never quite trusted it.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AWhere there's the full skip the counter.
Speaker AI did the entire check in online in the Alamo app.
Speaker AI mean, I scanned my driver's license.
Speaker AGet everything in there.
Speaker AI'm like, they're gonna have my scan of my driver's license.
Speaker AIf I do it at the counter, I do it on here.
Speaker ASo let's just get it taken care of.
Speaker ASo we, we did the advanced check in.
Speaker AWe did the skip the counter.
Speaker AWe went right out to the car,.
Speaker BWhich is the terminal is like literally right across from baggage Claim.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BThe pickup, the garage there where you pick them up.
Speaker AAnd Alamo, by the way, I think Alamo and National both are on the first level.
Speaker BYeah, that was right.
Speaker AYou just walk straight out.
Speaker AYou just walk right up.
Speaker AThere's Alamo.
Speaker AA little guy helped us who said we need a minivan.
Speaker BGreeted us.
Speaker BThat was so nice.
Speaker BHe did, yeah.
Speaker BHe's like, what kind of car are you getting?
Speaker BAnd we said, a minivan.
Speaker BAnd he said, oh, they're right over here.
Speaker AHe did the one handed point, not with the finger, but his whole one handed point.
Speaker BTake your pick.
Speaker ANo.
Speaker AYeah, there's like four or five to choose from.
Speaker ASo I know in the past you rent, you run a certain vehicle and.
Speaker AOh, we don't have that one, right?
Speaker BNope.
Speaker BThey had several.
Speaker BWe were good to go.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker ASo we picked one, went out, had a little weight at the gate.
Speaker ANot too bad.
Speaker BRight?
Speaker ABut yeah, they scanned the.
Speaker AThe rental pass or the barcode, whatever is in the wallet app on the phone held it up.
Speaker AShe scanned it, we were good to go.
Speaker AGave her the credit card, the id.
Speaker AShe double checked everything and off we were.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo it was easy.
Speaker BSo we had to drive to Daytona Beach.
Speaker AOh, before we get into that, one of the.
Speaker BSorry.
Speaker AWe had to do this before we left the parking area.
Speaker AWe have a SunPass for our vehicle at home.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker ASo in Ohio, we have the Easy Pass, which is the exact same system as the Sun Pass.
Speaker ASo they're totally compatible.
Speaker AThe only trick is, here's a chip.
Speaker AIn Ohio, they charge like a minimal charge every month, like a quarter or something to keep it active.
Speaker AFlorida doesn't do that.
Speaker ASo if you just get it through Florida.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AUse it in Ohio, you use it in Florida.
Speaker ABingo bango.
Speaker ABut then before we had to leave the deck, you have to go into the Sun Pass app on the phone and connect the license plate in the back car to the Sun Pass that we have up here.
Speaker ASo as we're going through the tolls, it knows it's us going through.
Speaker AOtherwise, the state of Florida looks at this license plate, they send all the information to Alamo, who will send you the bill, plus a convenience charge.
Speaker BI'll know who that's convenient for.
Speaker BIt's not us.
Speaker ABut yeah.
Speaker ASo they had to add because we have increments of $10 put on if we need it.
Speaker ASo they did it twice during our trip.
Speaker ASo we're probably at 20 of tolls.
Speaker ABut we.
Speaker AYeah, we drove on a lot of toll roads and it was nice not being on i4.
Speaker BOh, it was.
Speaker BI'll take that over i4 any day.
Speaker AOr one time that GPS told us to get an i4, I looked over like, we're not getting on i4.
Speaker BOh, it WAS so backed up, we.
Speaker BI'm not even sure we could have gotten onto i4 anytime soon.
Speaker BIt was way backed up.
Speaker AI'm not sure why she told us to go that way, but.
Speaker AOkay, so that's my.
Speaker AOur other tip of the day.
Speaker AGet a Florida sun test.
Speaker AThe big sun pass.
Speaker ANot like the little sticker they'll want you to put in the window with the full fledged transponder.
Speaker BCorrect.
Speaker AThat's what we have.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AThat works.
Speaker AGood.
Speaker ATalk about our trip out to.
Speaker BSo it was pretty uneventful.
Speaker BI thought our trip to Daytona.
Speaker BIt was good.
Speaker BWe stopped at a restaurant that we will not name because that's key to something else that happened later on.
Speaker ASo it rhymes with wrapper Carol or something like that.
Speaker AIt was.
Speaker AAnyway, Mary had tried to have a rebrand going down.
Speaker BThat's all we're gonna say.
Speaker AOh, so good.
Speaker AGoing down.
Speaker BSo we get to the hotel.
Speaker BThere's a nice hotel right on the beach.
Speaker BAnd it was also the hotel where the wedding was going to take place.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BRooms were quite large.
Speaker AVery large.
Speaker BNot the layout that I would have preferred, but it was fairly clean.
Speaker BDid not really pay attention to the room type that I booked.
Speaker BI mean, we discussed it and I said, well, if we're gonna go, I want to look at the ocean, I want to hear the ocean.
Speaker BAnd when I booked it, it said ocean view.
Speaker BI made the mistake of thinking that meant balcony, and it did not.
Speaker BThere was another category that either they didn't have, it wasn't available.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker BThat was balcony.
Speaker BSo we did end up with a window.
Speaker BAnd I was a little disappointed at the beginning, but that was my fault.
Speaker BI booked it that way.
Speaker BI just didn't realize it.
Speaker BWe tried to upgrade.
Speaker BThey didn't have anything available, but in the long run it was okay because the weather wasn't that great anyway.
Speaker BAnd their love bugs came back on May 1st, and I guess they were invading everywhere.
Speaker BThey were all over the place.
Speaker BThey were on our window.
Speaker BThey were everywhere.
Speaker AAnd so the balcony said they were just all over the place.
Speaker AAnd they couldn't.
Speaker BYeah, they couldn't even enjoy the balcony.
Speaker BI'm like, okay, well, then I guess it worked out for us.
Speaker AMark that as a win.
Speaker AI guess we will.
Speaker BSo bathroom had a very odd layout.
Speaker BHad a sink that the minute you put your hands under the water to wash them.
Speaker BWater just flew everywhere.
Speaker BIt just wasn't a good design.
Speaker AIt was like a water park.
Speaker BThey.
Speaker BAnd the hand soap was nowhere near the sink.
Speaker BLike you had to go down the end of the counter to get the hand soap.
Speaker BSo you're dripping water was just.
Speaker BIt was just odd.
Speaker BAnd then I, you know, have like a face wash at home, but I don't travel with it.
Speaker BI just use a bar of soap when I travel.
Speaker BNot a big deal.
Speaker BThere was not one bar of soap in the entire hotel.
Speaker ANo.
Speaker AI figured I'll just run down to the desk, go get one there.
Speaker BI mean.
Speaker BNo, I know most hotels are going to the dispensers of shower gel, hand soap, that kind of stuff.
Speaker BThat's all fin.
Speaker BBut you can usually request a bar of soap and they'll bring it to you.
Speaker AYeah, just one of the little ones.
Speaker ANot like a full footage half size,.
Speaker BJust a little hotel size bar soap.
Speaker BBut no, they don't even have those anymore.
Speaker BSo I was stuck with shower gel, washing the face.
Speaker BI wasn't super happy about that.
Speaker BBut anyway, so we get everything situated and it's all good and we go to bed.
Speaker BAnd then about 2 in the morning.
Speaker BIt did not go well for you?
Speaker ANo, no.
Speaker AI apparently had.
Speaker BWhich I think was food poisoning.
Speaker AI was gonna say food poisoning.
Speaker BI think that's what it was because it was pretty violent and pretty short and quick.
Speaker BYeah, but I mean hours long.
Speaker BIt wasn't like one and done.
Speaker BIt was hours long.
Speaker ANo.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BSo I think things finally calmed down around 6:30, 7:00 in the morning for you.
Speaker AYeah, they did.
Speaker BAnd I. I mean we've been awake most of the night.
Speaker ARight, but.
Speaker BSo you went back to sleep?
Speaker BBut I was kind of up.
Speaker BI saw your mom.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BOut our window.
Speaker BShe was watching the ocean, the waves and stuff.
Speaker BSo I don't know, maybe it was around 9 o' clock ish or so that I.
Speaker BMaybe 8.
Speaker BI don't remember.
Speaker BYeah, I don't what time.
Speaker BI went down and hadn't seen your mom for a while so it's good to see her and had a very, very nice talk with her and just sat and watched the ocean and it was good.
Speaker AI eventually went down.
Speaker BYes, you did.
Speaker AAnd it was very pleasant out there.
Speaker BOh, it was, it was super nice.
Speaker BAnd the ocean just.
Speaker BI just loved the sound of the waves.
Speaker BIt was nice.
Speaker BIt was so nice to have a hotel that was really, literally right on the beach.
Speaker BIt was nice.
Speaker BWe had intended to go to the beach and we had researched a little bit that said there was a rental company that rented two chairs and an umbrella for $30 for three hours.
Speaker BAnd we had intended to do that.
Speaker BAnd your mom and I had a good time watching them set everything up.
Speaker BAll their chairs.
Speaker BThey had a great big long drill that they would drill into the sand so that the umbrella sunk down far enough so that it didn't blow away.
Speaker BAnd it was interesting watching them set everything up.
Speaker BBut we chose not to take advantage of that because you still weren't 100%.
Speaker BWe were getting better, but not a hundred percent.
Speaker BBut.
Speaker BSo we just sat outside, watched the waves.
Speaker BIt was super pleasant.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BThen we got a little bit of lunch and I said I'm going to take a nap because it's not going to.
Speaker BI'm going to be in bed by 6:30 if I don't get a nap.
Speaker BSo I took a nap.
Speaker BAnd then we cleaned up well for the wedding.
Speaker AWe did.
Speaker BWe looked really good.
Speaker BSo went to the wedding.
Speaker BUnfortunately, the weather was not cooperative.
Speaker ANo, it's been outside.
Speaker BI know our poor niece, she had to move her outside wedding to the inside.
Speaker BBut the hotel had a rooftop venue.
Speaker BRooftop room.
Speaker BAnd so where they set up the little trellis that they had, it did overlook the.
Speaker BThere was like three sides of the room.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BIt was wrap around windows.
Speaker BIt was nice so you could see the ocean and see the beach and stuff.
Speaker BAnd the pastor that did the wedding, he was amazing.
Speaker AHe's apparently.
Speaker AI don't know his name offhand, but he's apparently YouTube famous for.
Speaker AI guess so like Disney weddings or Central Florida weddings.
Speaker ASo he did a great.
Speaker BHe was fantastic.
Speaker BSo did that.
Speaker BThen they got some pictures and she did get to go down on the beach a little bit later, do some beach pictures because the weather cleared up.
Speaker BHer DJ was amazing.
Speaker BI don't know who he was either, but he.
Speaker BYeah, he.
Speaker BI wish they were around here.
Speaker BI would hire him in a heartbeat.
Speaker BFor Mackenzie's wedding.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BAnd then we had dinner.
Speaker BI think.
Speaker BI know there was a vegetation vegetarian choice, but I don't remember what it was.
Speaker BBut I had chicken florentine and you had the rib eye steak.
Speaker BAnd then we split it so we could each try the other.
Speaker BAnd it was the first time I'd ever had polenta.
Speaker AWho knew?
Speaker BWho knew how tasty it was?
Speaker BIt was amazing.
Speaker BThe chicken Florentine was really good.
Speaker BThe ribeye was amazing.
Speaker ASo the ribeye could have fed four people.
Speaker AIt was huge.
Speaker BIt was a massive, massive ribeye.
Speaker ASo delicious.
Speaker BIt was good.
Speaker BBut the venue staff of the hotel, they could not have been more pleasant, more polite, more professional.
Speaker AThey were on the ball.
Speaker BThe service was amazing at the wedding.
Speaker BIt was fantastic.
Speaker BIt was.
Speaker BAnd we had not had a chance to see your sister and brother in law for a while.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BAnd we just had the absolute best time.
Speaker AIt was a good evening.
Speaker BIt was a great evening.
Speaker BAnd the wedding was over about 10 and it was so great to just get in the elevator and go down to your room, go to bed.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker BSo it was fantastic.
Speaker BWe had such a good time and the money we spent going was 110% well worth it.
Speaker BI'm so thankful that we went.
Speaker BIt was such a fun, fun time.
Speaker ATotally do it again.
Speaker BOh, I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Speaker AI mean, they probably won't have to do it again because I hope they.
Speaker BDon't do it again, you know.
Speaker AHey.
Speaker BBut it was really, really good.
Speaker BBut yeah, we had a.
Speaker BJust a really great time.
Speaker BAnd then the next morning we just kind of got up and laid around.
Speaker AA little bit and oh, I will say on the way to the resort, driving, we drove by the speedway.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker AWe drove by a baseball stadium.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker AAnd they're playing baseball.
Speaker AWhen it looked like a nice little stadium for where it was.
Speaker BWell, some gentleman told me because he saw this shirt, I had to have.
Speaker AA shirt that yeah, I was going to get to the shirt purchase.
Speaker BHe told me, he goes, do you know that that is.
Speaker BIt's no longer a major league stadium, but it is the oldest major league stadium in the country.
Speaker BThat's what he said.
Speaker BI don't know if it's true or not, but that's what he told me.
Speaker AHuh.
Speaker BBut now I guess it's a minor league stadium.
Speaker AI'm sure.
Speaker BBut yeah, so.
Speaker BBut it's the Daytona Tortugas and we.
Speaker AJust love the look of the shirt.
Speaker AThe lady actually at the hotel was wearing it when we got there with a, with a big sea T shirt on it because Tortuga.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AIt means turtle Ray.
Speaker BI guess.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker ASure, why not?
Speaker AOr means rum.
Speaker AOne or the other.
Speaker BBut anyway, I really liked it.
Speaker BAnd we actually, the hotel has a thing that if you declined housekeeping, and we were only there one night, so it was easy to decline housekeeping.
Speaker BYou got a 15 credit on your account.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BAnd they said they wanted you to use it in one of their marketplaces.
Speaker BBut I think you still would have maybe had a 15 credit because you paid cash for my shirt.
Speaker BSo they wouldn't have known that we didn't charge.
Speaker AWe're too worried about it.
Speaker BI don't think so either.
Speaker BBut the credit was on there.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker BAnd I got a cute little shirt out of it.
Speaker ASo there was a win.
Speaker BWin.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker BAnd then we'll wrap this up and we'll do a part two for what.
Speaker AWe did on Sunday before we came home.
Speaker BBefore we came home.
Speaker AThat's going to be a story you're going to want to stay tuned for for sure.
Speaker AThat's what you call a teaser.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AAnyway, I'm Tim Scott, joined by again.
