Was Sebastian’s Bistro Better Than ’Ohana? | Disney World Trip Report Part 2! [Ep.909]

We're now on the final leg of our journey over the highway.

In the sky just ahead, you can see the beautiful Cinderella Castle with its spires rising nearly 200ft high.

Welcome back.

We're back to part two of Stephen and Emily's Disney trip recap.

Last time, we covered the first half of the trip that included Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

Today, we're going to get down to business.

We're going to pick up with the Animal Kingdom, more great food, and the rest of the Disney adventures they had on their vacation.

Let's get back to it.

We were Animal Kingdom the next day.

Okay.

Where we did Emily's laughing joint.

So I got in trouble.

Oh, there was a miscommunication.

Emily says, I just wanted to do this.

I don't really remember.

I think it was just a miscue.

Our friends were showing up to the park this day for the weekend, and we agreed to go at 1 o'.

Clock.

So the night before, I remember asking, do you want.

She loves the safari.

Who doesn't love the safari?

And so I said, do you want to go early?

And we can hit the safari and we can hit some stuff before they get here, just, you know, in case the lines are really long.

The lines were not long at all.

And she goes, no.

And then we end up going to the park.

I said I wanted to sleep in.

That's what it was.

So we end up going to the park, and had it not rained, I wouldn't have been in trouble.

But it rained a lot.

Poured.

So we go back.

I did some laundry, went back to the park.

I did laundry for the first time at Disney.

How'd that go?

It was.

It's an app.

I.

There's an app for everything, apparently.

Right.

So I didn't know that.

So it was an apple.

I didn't know where laundry was at Pop Century.

I had to use the map to find it.

Super easy.

Found it right by the pool.

Well, I didn't know what the building was.

That was like a cast member building because I'd never been in it before.

But obviously that was not an issue.

We went back to the Animal Kingdom, we hit the safari, which was.

And it was a beautiful afternoon.

It was a beautiful afternoon after the rain.

And we hit the safari, which was Walk on, I don't think.

There wasn't a line, was it?

No, just walk on.

We sat in the back of the safari.

That's a thrill, right?

In itself.

True.

I thought I was gonna get thrown out of there.

Emily's, you know, holding her phone, getting pictures like death gripping because you're one little divot away from the zebra.

Almost got my phone.

Oh, yeah.

Talk about the safari, Emily.

No, I just love it.

There are so many animals.

They're very active.

They were.

They were all over the place.

A rhino walked right in front of our driver, and the driver had to stop and wait for the rounder.

Okay.

Our driver was really good too.

Yes.

Nice.

I don't know who our driver was.

She was great, though.

Yeah, she was.

We did hit expedition Everest twice.

I.

Do you think the park emptied out because of all the rain?

It could have.

Okay.

I think so.

And it also closes early, so if you.

If you're a park hopper person and it's emptied out, you're probably not going back.

So I'm sure that helped out.

Right?

I did.

We.

I.

We did flight of passage for the first time.

I was nervous the entire line.

I was telling Emily, I'm not gonna fit because it's the leg locks, man.

I was terrified of the leg locks.

And so I'm looking at this thing, I knew it was a leg lock.

I'm watching.

I'm like, emily, you need to promise me that if I don't fit on this thing, my legs are too big.

You gotta go on the ride.

Because she came back and sat with me in Tron, which I appreciated, but I don't want her to not do something because I don't fit because I have giant legs.

It's just that's.

That I'm not skipping leg day anytime soon.

So I. I promise.

You may promise I fit.

No problem.

So I'm guessing the Tron is just the way it's shaped, which is fine.

So is it not like a Santa slay option of any other kind?

No, not only that, there is.

There is no accessibility on that one.

No bench like a net or cell.

No.

And I was surprised, actually, but no, no.

The one thing I will say, it was described to me as a more intense Soarin.

That is a great description for it, but the pre show was the weirdest thing in the world.

Oh, it was a very weird pre show.

It was very long.

I felt like too, like at one point, they're like, move around so we can see you.

I. I don't.

I don't understand it.

I don't know what they were trying to do.

I didn't get it.

I also haven't seen Avatar.

That might be part of it.

I don't know.

I was just there to ride on the back of whatever dinosaur thing they're talking about.

Okay.

And I did.

And it was really cool.

Very long.

It was like a four minute ride.

Four and a half minutes.

Yeah.

Wow.

Which was very cool.

It felt long, which was nice.

I loved it.

I would definitely do it again.

Nice.

Okay.

Some people were talking.

I've heard people complain about the screen.

Like, it's getting blurry.

I didn't notice anything because I looked for it, because I was trying to see what other people were talking about.

I feel like people like to just complain.

Well, that is true.

But I didn't have any issue.

Okay.

Awesome.

So was that the last thing you did?

Would you.

What else did you do with the.

We did that.

So our friends left after that one.

I think they were going to putt putt or something with their tickets.

We hit the Na' Vi river journey because we hadn't done that one before.

And we got to see the $23 million animatronic.

It was really cool to see that.

Okay.

I've seen videos of the ride where they put a screen down, keep it moving.

So I was kind of nervous because I, you know, I'm not going on the ride twice.

Right.

It's a little boat ride, but it was there.

Super cool to see.

I really enjoyed it a lot.

And then on the way out, do we hit Everest on the way out?

So we hit Ever.

We hit Everest on the way out.

And for the first time of the trip, Emily goes, I'm kind of hungry.

Okay.

And you know when it's mid-90s and you're walking all day, you don't really get hungry.

So I get it.

So I go, okay.

Get motion sick.

Yes.

He gets motion sickness.

Flight of passage.

If you get motion sickness, take some Dramamine.

It moves you gotcha.

And stay hydrated.

I think that helps too.

Yes.

Emily goes, I'm kind of.

Let's get something to eat.

Okay.

Do you want, like a quick service?

And she goes, I want to go sit somewhere.

Okay.

So I pull up the app, she goes to the bathroom.

We had a couple options.

There was a.

We have not done Ohana's for dinner since before they took away the skewers.

It's been a long time.

So I go, well, Emily, there's an Ohana's at 9:50.

And she goes, it's far too late.

All right.

So we go through a couple options.

And we settled on Sebastian's Bistro at the Caribbean.

Had never been there before.

So we're.

We.

We booked that.

And I think I booked a time for like, an hour away or an hour out to give us time.

So we had to go find the Caribbean beach bus.

And then I had never been to the Caribbean beach.

I was unaware that it's kind of set up like old Key west, where there's eight or nine different bus stops.

Oh, yeah.

Because we pulled in and it said pulling into Jamaica.

And all I could think was, this doesn't look like the main lobby, so you got to Google it real quick.

We had no problem getting there.

We had a resort mugs with us, which we'll talk about the resort mugs after this.

Okay.

We get to the restaurant, and we knew it was family style, and we kind of looked at the menu, and we're ready for it.

The agave butter for the rolls was magical.

It was very good.

Am I wrong, Emily?

No.

And the rolls were top tier.

So what kind of salad?

I forget what kind of salad did they have that came out?

It had, like.

Like, pumpkin seeds on it maybe.

Yeah.

And like, a very, like, balsamic dressing.

I don't know.

It was good, though.

It was very good.

Okay.

Yeah.

And so very island style.

Yes.

It's like island style.

Definitely the island vibe.

Which, of course, makes sense.

The food came out, and so they had steak pulled pork, some sort of white fish.

What else do they have?

Chicken.

They had chicken.

That was very good.

Okay.

And then the sides were this, like, rice and beans.

I'm not a bean person.

So I just picked the beans out and they had.

It wasn't carrots, but it looked like carrots.

I don't know.

It was good.

It was all good.

Yeah.

Like mixed veggie veggies and fried plantains.

Yes.

So nice.

Okay.

I believe I was texting you guys.

It is a must do.

And I would argue it is better than Ohana's dinner.

Wow.

It was really, really good.

That's high praise.

Are you in next time?

I'm totally in.

Although I'm allergic to shellfish, so that always makes me a tad bit nervous when it's a seafood type restaurant, but I'm in.

No white fish for you.

Well, they'll even sell you.

I'll sell you more.

Mom, I ate the dessert.

That's shocking because you are definitely not a sweet tooth person by any means.

No.

And Emily was upset because she thought she was gonna get mine.

I was.

It was really good.

It was a pineapple coconut bread pudding.

And that would totally be up your alley because you love the bread at Ohana.

Yes.

Damn.

And it Came with, like, a little side thing of caramel to put over top of it.

And then ice cream, right?

Yes, but I don't eat the ice cream, so I knew that was gonna go to Steven, but I did not think that he would eat something of, like, the actual bread pudding.

We only got one tray.

It's family style.

They'll he.

Our, our waiter was awesome, and he was like, anything else you want, go for it.

But it was really filling.

The chicken was really good.

The steak had this, like, chinny churry sauce.

Was the mango salsa there?

Was that at the roundup?

That was that.

The mango salsa.

I don't know what you were supposed to put it on.

I just ate it straight.

It was good, but on a spoon.

Yeah, that's what I did.

Emily's feet still hurt.

And we took the death march all the way to the Skyliner.

Probably.

That can't be a long walk.

A very, very long walk.

The beach is so huge.

Steven didn't know where to go.

So I'm so surprised.

That also took.

Okay, even longer first time, though.

Why would you follow him?

Hold on, hold on.

Didn't know what else to do.

Hold on.

I asked the nice lady at the Host to stand how to get to the Skyliner.

She gave us directions.

But then you wanted to stop for pictures of fireworks, and I forgot.

So we were on the right track until you stopped for the pictures.

Wow.

But we did get there, and then we figured out how to get there.

Could you see the Skyliner, though?

You just gotta kind of follow the cables.

Oh, we could see him.

We could see it.

It looked pretty.

We could see it.

But, you know, you didn't want to take guess wrong.

And then you're taking a longer way there and her feet hurt.

So I asked again, and I think this one lady gave me bad directions because she said the shorter ways that way.

And I said, okay, but I can see the station over there.

So I, I don't know.

I, I, I chose to go toward the station.

I could see.

Okay.

There is a map in the app.

Well, thank you for telling me that now.

Wonderful.

Okay, so did that conclude your night then?

That concluded our night.

We got back to pop century, but we got back in time to fill up our resort mugs.

Nice.

Okay.

And I'll be honest.

It was our first time doing resort mugs.

And so the first day, what do you have to get for breakfast on your first day at Disney?

You have to get Mickey waffles.

It's.

You have to.

So, Emily, I.

What did you get for breakfast that first.

Did you get Mickey waffles too?

I think so.

And then.

So I got an apple juice, she got an orange juice.

The total was like $40 what we got, which, whatever.

But it was like 14 in drinks for a little orange juice or apple juice I get at the gas station for A$50.

And that's what sold us on these resort mugs.

And we saved a lot of money by having the resort mugs.

Yes.

I drank a lot of sweet tea and a lot of blue Powerade.

Emily learned the joy of a Crispy Coke after 20,000 steps in the park.

And Fanta orange.

Yeah, if you're going to drink those kind of beverages, that's a good call.

Well, I, I wonder if they're more worth it at a value versus a deluxe.

I love the vibe of the Pop Century food court, but when we went to Beaches and Cream, we went to go fill them up at their quick service and it's just like it's in the back of a store.

Oh yeah.

It's kind of a weird setup.

I'm sure every resort has their own vibe, which is different.

I wonder if it's more worth it at a value where they have like a big food court type thing.

Yeah, the values do have the huge food courts with several beverage stations.

So I could see where you get in and out quick.

Get in them there.

Yeah, especially if you're going to get quick service food at the beach club.

You're just taking it back to your room like there's no place to eat it.

So that was kind of different.

But again, we've been to Pop Century for a while.

Although speaking of beaches and cream, great food as always.

Emily saw the kitchen sink in person.

How would you think I wanted it?

Really bad.

Really, really bad.

But just the toppings, the ice cream.

I offer, it's Disney.

If you make a reasonable request, they will take care of it for you.

I.

And our waitress is very nice.

I was only.

I said, emily, I'll get you whipped cream and toppings right now.

Like all you got to do is ask.

They'd have made that happen.

They would have.

It's not a crazy request.

And she said, no, don't make anything.

Happen for a price.

True.

Anything.

You know, they would have charged you something, but it probably wasn't going to be as much as the kitchen sink, so.

And I would have had no problem paying for it either.

I mean, but I especially, you know,.

Like cuz you vacationed with us and we did basically one vacation a Year we didn't do a lot of like.

I mean, you guys were involved in so much.

We didn't have any free weekends, you know, the rest of the year.

And I was teacher, so we couldn't vacation any other time.

But we just.

We lived it up and did our thing.

Yeah.

Dad was able to pull out a picture of the kitchen sink from when Mackenzie got it back in.

She was 13.

Because it was cuz we did 13 special things the year you guys were 13.

And that was what Mackenzie wanted.

The things.

It still looks the exact same.

Some things change.

Not the kitchen sink.

Next time we go, we'll have to do a dinner reservation there can do that.

Because I will need to go back to the room after I eat all those toppings and not ride any rides.

So we went to Hollywood studios the next day.

We had our friends with us.

This time we did the Rise of the Resistance, which is always fun.

And that was a fun one because the pre show wasn't working.

Oh, the original, like with the hologram and then the first cart or the little ride thing that gets you to the starship, it wasn't working.

Oh, I hit my partial dream of an evac.

We got to go in the back way.

Oh, okay.

That was kind of cool to see that side of the ride.

I enjoyed that.

We had that.

We did Indiana Jones, which I hadn't seen in a long time.

And they stopped the show halfway through.

Oh, there was lightning in the area.

It was kind of raining.

And they said for performance safety, we will not continue.

Which I thought was pretty cool.

You know, some companies will send their performers out there.

And, you know, they say everyone's replaceable.

And I mean, they do.

So they.

They shut that down for performer safety, which was really cool.

You laugh, but I hear that saying a lot.

Oh, but the big one, it was you guys highly recommended.

It was Woody's Roundup barbecue.

Yes.

And it was very good.

The biscuits that come out with it are really good.

The only problem I had with it is that I took Emily here to a barbecue place and she had one piece of meat that I cut off my meat for her.

She just ate the sides the entire time.

Those are good sides.

I'm a big side girly.

Absolutely.

Hey, you're at Disney.

Eat what you want.

And the night before, we went to Sebastian's, and that was literally all meat, basically.

So I had it just.

They say with barbecue, it's all about the sides.

Yeah, the sides were good.

The tomato, cucumber salad, that was good.

Bomb.

The Mac and cheese.

Did not try Mac and cheese.

Not a.

Not a Mac and cheese guy.

She said it was really good.

Come on.

I had a lot of the brisket, which I thought was very good.

The chicken was good.

I think there was pork in there of some.

There was like a sausage wheel that was kind of.

They wheeled it up.

I didn't try that.

Ribs.

There were ribs.

The ribs were really, really good.

I. I ate a lot of ribs and I ate a lot of the brisket.

Okay.

Our server there, she might be the happiest person I've ever seen on the history of ever.

She was very nice.

It was funny.

We were next to where the servers go in and out of the kitchen.

And as the Andy's coming comes on, every server just makes a beeline for the kitchen, which I thought was huge, which I thought was humorous because they were on the move to get back there.

One guy got caught, so he had to freeze in the middle of the aisle.

Way he got caught.

But it was a cute.

It was a cute theme.

I like how they had other toys.

They had ham come out.

Sarge talked over the last week.

I thought that was really cool.

And the food was very, very good.

So I love it.

The desserts were good.

Did I have the dessert there?

I don't think I did.

What'd you have for dessert?

I had.

It was like strawberry cheesecake, I believe.

Yeah.

I wouldn't ate that.

And then I had something else.

But no, I can't remember what it was, but it was really good.

Oh, it came in those little cups.

There was a forky cup.

The guy next to me loves forky.

That came out.

It was like a sugar cookie with like a strawberry shortcake type thing.

Okay.

All stuff that.

It's not for me.

I'm not a sweet tooth.

But Emily loved it.

Nice.

Anything else at the studios?

I don't believe.

So we were gonna do Fantasmic.

Decided not to.

I still have not seen that show, so maybe I should go see it at some point.

Yeah.

I always gotta say something for another trip.

Seen that show since you were little.

You've seen it.

Oh, news to me.

You were young, but you've seen it.

And then our last day in the parks was at Epcot.

Okay.

Again, we hit everything we did do.

We spent a lot of time in the aquarium this time after Nemo and Friends, which I've never spent a lot of time in there before.

So it was kind of cool to walk around and see all the animals that were in there.

We saw a Couple sharks.

Really cool.

I feel like we did something else.

We did Guardians of the Galaxy.

We did it earlier in the trip.

I forgot about it.

So I knew there were multiple songs on Guardians of the Galaxy.

Yes, I knew that.

And I've heard September's the one you want to get.

That's the ones one I like.

So the first time, Emily and I did purchase the Lightning Lane for that one because I've seen the wait times get crazy from that.

So we buy the Lightning Lane.

We got September the first time, which was really cool.

I thought it flowed really well with the track.

So then we rope dropped it the next day, and it was probably 40 minutes, give or take.

We rope dropped it.

We got a.

Was it one way or another?

I think so.

We got that one wasn't bad.

It didn't flow as well.

September.

And then we did the strategy at the end of the day where you hop in line before the park closes so you can ride it again.

I have no idea what ride we got Emily.

The motion sickness had got her, so she did not ride the second time.

But this time I had heard or read throughout the day that you want row nine.

I don't.

I didn't know why, but nine and ten are in the same cart.

So I let our two friends ride in row nine.

I rode in row ten.

And it's cool because you're at the back for them for a good part of the ride and then you're at the front, or you're the front and the back, whatever it was.

Right.

But really cool.

And I thought they'd be.

I just asked, is it.

Can we sit in the back?

And they're like, yeah, just stand on letter A over there.

And then next train, just walk back there.

And so I'm sure they get that request a lot.

I loved Guardians.

By far the best ride at Disney World.

I think it's not.

It's no Carousel of Progress, but it'll work.

No, it's true.

Yeah, we did not.

I don't think we've ever ridden in row nine or 10 for guardians.

I don't think so.

I'm not one to usually ask, but yeah, it's because after you go, you the, you know, you turn or you rotate and then you're first for the launch and then the big bang.

And you have the best view for that.

So I thought the pre show was humorous.

I had heard people just sprint to the right and seeing that in action was interesting.

I was actually paying attention to the pre show.

I haven't seen any of the Guardians movies.

I haven't really seen any of the DC or Marvel movies.

Sorry.

They're all rolling their eyes at me,.

You know, because you asked what movie Guardians of the Galaxy was based on.

I didn't know it was.

I didn't know it was a movie.

I didn't know.

Nick's cracking up.

This one's on me.

I didn't know.

And you said D.C. and that D.C. has nothing to do with.

Yeah, that's on me.

The only thing I wish they would do a little better is after the.

The show where, you know, you have the pre show, it's just a mad dash to get into, like, the.

The queue.

And so it's like, really wide and really narrow all of a sudden.

And so people are like, trampling over each other.

And it's like, we waited 100 minutes to get to this point.

Like, relax.

We're all gonna get on the ride.

Everyone remains civil.

I mean, I don't.

I mean.

And they're.

Disney's not gonna do anything to fix that.

Obviously, they don't care that much.

But I was.

I mean, just let's have some common sense.

I'm pretty sure for most people, Disney's their first time on planet Earth.

That's my guess, because there were some things I don't get it.

Like, why are we trampling over each other?

We got through the show.

We're at the.

We're gonna be on the ride the next five minutes.

What do I know?

Emily's looking at me like she's got something to say.

No.

Do you think I'm stupid?

Well, yes, but not because of that.

Wow, y' all are so mean to me.

Yeah, I'm the one that stuck up for you when you use their big vocabulary words.

Thank you.

I'm just saying that I'm sorry.

That joke just kind of lent itself right there.

I think the.

I love you.

Yeah, thanks.

So that was.

That was the end of our park day.

But we did not have the breeze flight out of there until 8:00 clock that night.

Yes.

And there isn't the next night.

Yeah.

So we have a whole.

We have one more day in the room at Pop Century.

And we've.

I've thought about getting the early flight out, but I don't want to get the Uber at, you know, 4 o'.

Clock.

Get to the MCO.

Do that.

So we were Disney homeless for a little bit.

We had ohanas in the morning for breakfast, which was great.

We did some resort hopping, baggage, checked our bags I was like, hey, we're gonna go do some stuff around.

It's our last day.

And I was kind of worried they wouldn't take our bags.

Oh, I'd never done it before, but they must happen all the time because they were had no issue with that.

Absolutely.

So around about it, around two o', clock, maybe three, we get back to pop century and we of course don't have a room to go to.

So we just put our feet in the pool, just hanging out, whatever, and we watched another family go into the room we just had.

Oh.

And that was just icing on the cake for the our vacation being over.

That was really sad.

That's.

It was exciting.

I mean, you know, Emily sees him walking up there, she goes, wouldn't it be funny if they go into our room?

And then, you know, they were watching him and she just goes, oh my gosh.

And they took our room.

And I was like, I'll go up there and tell them to get out right now.

And they probably used our Disney plus that I didn't log out.

Yeah, we don't see any idea.

So our Disney plus still might be there?

Honestly, we don't really know.

You can log in in your account and then log out of everywhere.

Oh, I don't care that much.

Oh, that's going to get me out of my own TVs.

Well, they're gonna mess up your algorithm then.

That might explain why there's been a lot of Pixar on the algorithm lately.

Because usually it's a lot of Disney Channel originals.

Eddie's Million Dollar Cook Off, Luck of the Irish.

Recently it's been a lot of Frozen and a lot of Monsters, Inc.

So there you might be them log.

In and log out.

We might want to do that, Emily.

All right.

Anything else?

Anything exciting you want to talk about?

I think that was it.

I would say the highlight of the trip was just the extra evening hours, including Mickey bars and bottles of water, because I didn't see that coming.

So that was a big highlight.

And then obviously Disney food is all really good.

If we go again, I'm going to try to convince Emily to go to the beach club with me.

I don't know if I can do it.

I'm going to try.

But that's.

That was the trip.

It was a lot of fun.

I would definitely use the wonderful travel agent I had again.

Oh.

Because somehow he got me two more days for less money.

That's true, that's true.

It's what I do.

Don't know how he did it, but I'm not mad about it.

So for your next trip, would you consider doing another longer trip?

5, 6, 7 Days, or would you?

I think it would depend on what we have going on.

I'm now, I now run the baseball organization I'm a part of, so we'd have to find the time for it.

I would prefer at least maybe a four day trip, one for each day in the park, but I did enjoy six.

We do Epcot in Hollywood studios twice.

So if you're feeling tired or need a break.

I didn't feel obligated to push through and just be miserable.

I enjoyed being able to just.

I think we went back, I think one of the days at Epcot or Hollywood Studios, we went back at like 7:00'.

Clock.

Just, you know, you have the time.

Yeah.

No sense of being miserable.

You know, those, those little weekend trips, man, you, you feel the need to cram it all in and that can be almost frustrating in a way because you want to relax, but you want to hit everything at the same time.

Well, you'll get to the point where if you go for a quick trip, you won't feel like you really need to do everything.

Yeah, we're at that point, but we're old.

We are.
