Kicking Off A Disney World Trip Report with Steven & Emily [Ep.908]
We're kicking off a brand-new Walt Disney World trip report!
Join us as Steven and Emily share their perspective on their recent Disney vacation, from flying Breeze Airways out of Akron-Canton to staying at Disney's Pop Century Resort and enjoying a Magic Kingdom After Hours event.
Along the way, we discuss why Pop Century continues to be one of our favorite value resorts, using Uber from Orlando International Airport, our first impressions of the updated Buzz Lightyear attraction, Big Thunder Mountain's refreshed track, and what worked—and didn't work—during our first day in the parks.
We also share a few laughs, a few travel lessons, and plenty of Disney stories as we begin another magical trip report series!

Speaker AAnd please be sure your hands and legs are away from open doors.
Speaker BThank you.
Speaker BHey, everybody.
Speaker BThanks for joining us.
Speaker BI'm Tim Scott, joined by his lovely wife, Dawn.
Speaker BAnd we're also joined by our son Stephen, and our lovely daughter in law, Emily.
Speaker BSay hello, guys.
Speaker AGlad to be here.
Speaker BWe're recording this right before D23.
Speaker BFun fact.
Speaker CFun fact.
Speaker CIt's 7 o' clock and D23 is not on.
Speaker CWhy is D23 not on at 7 o' clock when it's supposed to be on?
Speaker BBecause It'll be on 7pm Pacific Time, which I didn't allow for when I saw 7pm on the.
Speaker BAll the information.
Speaker BSo we had family over.
Speaker BWe made Epcot's famous cheddar cheese bacon beer cheese soup.
Speaker CThat was so good.
Speaker BWe're sharing the mic, by the way, and it was very good.
Speaker BBut now some people are probably going to go to bed and leave and I'll be probably watching D23 alone, probably because I'm not staying up because that's late for the Scott family.
Speaker BBut I'm going to do it because.
Speaker BWhy?
Speaker CYou're the ultimate Disney fan.
Speaker BNo, because I care.
Speaker BBut that's.
Speaker BBut that counts too, to be fair.
Speaker BWho cares about the west coast, people?
Speaker AIt should be 7:00 Eastern Time.
Speaker BWell, there is that, but it is in.
Speaker BIn the West Coast, a little part called Disneyland and that's where Disney is based.
Speaker BAnyway, we're here for a little trip report.
Speaker AYeah, we just got back.
Speaker AWe went July 27th through August 3rd.
Speaker ALong trip.
Speaker AOur log, our longest one ever together.
Speaker AAnd it was a lot of fun.
Speaker AWe're excited to talk about it.
Speaker BI'm very excited because this trip was actually going to be.
Speaker BI think it was four days.
Speaker AOriginally.
Speaker AWe were supposed to go at the end of May, but I'm a teacher and we got to our allotted snow days and we moved out of caution in case we had to make days up.
Speaker AAnd we did have to make them up.
Speaker ASo it worked out for the best.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker BAnd then, I don't know if you remember, a code came out for a special discount that you were.
Speaker BIf you were able to switch your dates a little bit, you got two more days.
Speaker BAnd it cost us a little bit less.
Speaker BI think it was like $100 less or something for two additional days that included park tickets.
Speaker AYou're the man.
Speaker ABecause I didn't book a thing.
Speaker AAnd I was told if I go for two more days, it's less money.
Speaker ANot sure how that worked out, but I'm not mad about it.
Speaker BBut you're all in.
Speaker BEmily, how are you feeling about a longer vacation for less money?
Speaker DHeck yeah.
Speaker BAll right.
Speaker CAnd that, my friends, is why you use a travel agent.
Speaker BBoom.
Speaker CEspecially one that specializes in Disney travel.
Speaker BThat's right.
Speaker CWhat they're doing, right?
Speaker ASo let's get started on your trip.
Speaker BHow did you get there?
Speaker AWe are big fans of Breeze Airways right now and living 12 minutes from Akron, Canton.
Speaker AWe love Breeze.
Speaker AI think Spirit used to be there.
Speaker AAnd then Spirit, obviously, rest in peace.
Speaker BThey're gone.
Speaker BSo they went to Cleveland for a while and then when Spirit shut down, alas, there are no more.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ASo we went Breeze.
Speaker AAnd in typical Breeze fashion, I believe our flight was supposed to leave at 6 o' clock in the morning and we left at 5:45.
Speaker AAnd breeze gets you out of there quick, so don't be late to the airport if you're ever flying Breeze.
Speaker BThat's a good tip.
Speaker BGood tip.
Speaker BThat almost didn't almost happen to us, but we were like almost there and we're like, it was there.
Speaker BThey were doing their last boarding call.
Speaker CThey weren't.
Speaker CIt was like 35 minutes before we were supposed to leave, but people were there.
Speaker CThey're on.
Speaker CThey're like, everybody's here.
Speaker CWe might as well go.
Speaker ASo I think, you know, price wise, I think it was about $400 plus minus 15.
Speaker AWe didn't originally, we did not pick our seats.
Speaker ASo she, Emily sat on the window, I sat in the middle.
Speaker AWe were in a three person row.
Speaker AWe checked a bag and I think it was like $400.
Speaker AI did spend $70 on the way back for a two seat aisle.
Speaker AAgain, I sat aisle and she sat by the window.
Speaker ABecause after six days and probably 200,000 steps at Disney, I did not want to be stuck in the middle again.
Speaker AI, of course, was not going to do that to Emily.
Speaker BGotcha, gotcha.
Speaker BGood call.
Speaker BGood husband, Good move.
Speaker BTry.
Speaker BSo when you got to the airport, how.
Speaker BWhat was your plan to get to the parks?
Speaker AI've never actually used the Uber app, but Emily gets us the Uber.
Speaker ASo I don't really know the process how to get an Uber, but Emily does all that for me.
Speaker BGo ahead, Emily, tell us about getting the Uber.
Speaker BHow easy was it?
Speaker BEasy?
Speaker DEasy.
Speaker DYou log onto the app and it already had our terminal listed, so I didn't even have to figure out where the heck we were.
Speaker DAnd Orlando Airport.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker DDidn't even have to figure out where we were.
Speaker DAnd it said pick up at terminal B.
Speaker DOkay, sounds good.
Speaker D$40 Later.
Speaker BHow long did you have to wait?
Speaker DFive minutes.
Speaker BWow.
Speaker AAnd that was a big concern.
Speaker DAfter we got our bags, I didn't.
Speaker AReally know how to, you know, she asked what terminal we're in, and I'm like, I have no idea.
Speaker AAnd then you want to call an Uber to the wrong terminal?
Speaker ASo obviously a lot of people Uber out of mco, so they had terminal B.
Speaker AAnd again, took us five minutes.
Speaker AI loved our first Uber driver because he didn't talk to us.
Speaker AI loved it.
Speaker AI didn't want to have to fake conversation a little bit at Disney World, so it was nice.
Speaker AI enjoy a good silent ride as I get ready for the parks.
Speaker BCan you request, like, no talking in the app?
Speaker DI don't know.
Speaker BIt seems to ring a bell, but we don't really Uber or Lyft unless we're actually in the parks.
Speaker DI know you can request, like, an all female, like, driver something.
Speaker AYou can request a female driver.
Speaker AAnd then, of course, you can request, like, I think I saw an electric vehicle option on the app.
Speaker AAnd then you can request, like, the really fancy cars.
Speaker AWe didn't do that.
Speaker AWe didn't do the fancy car.
Speaker AWe just.
Speaker AWhatever car gets me to Walt Disney.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BCan you get one of those cars that looks like lightning McQueen?
Speaker AI did not see that in the app.
Speaker BOh, it's too bad.
Speaker DBummer.
Speaker BOkay, so you took that to the resort.
Speaker AWhat does.
Speaker BWhat resort did you decide to stay.
Speaker AAt in all century?
Speaker BWhy?
Speaker AWhy?
Speaker BWhy?
Speaker BWhy are you a top person?
Speaker A1.
Speaker AWe love the Skyliner.
Speaker DSkyliner.
Speaker AAnd there are other resorts on the Skyliner, but we are big pop Sentry people.
Speaker AI think we've stayed at Pop Century the last three times we've went, so it's more of a comfort thing.
Speaker AI can't speak for her.
Speaker AI know we both love Hollywood studios.
Speaker AMy second favorite park is Epcot, so skyliners on both makes life a lot easier.
Speaker BYou can't.
Speaker BYou can't go wrong with any resort on the Skyliner.
Speaker BNot at all.
Speaker BWhat kind of room did you have when you were there?
Speaker AI did the standard room.
Speaker AI don't really think there's a need.
Speaker BFor a preferred room.
Speaker BI disagree with you, but that's okay.
Speaker APop Sentry.
Speaker BThere's.
Speaker BDo we disagree?
Speaker CTotally disagree.
Speaker CBut that being said, I don't want a preferred room that has a pool view ever again.
Speaker CNo, it was it was.
Speaker CNo, it wasn't terribly noisy, but it was noisier for this girl who needs it super quiet to sleep.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BWe didn't actually have the pool view room, but we were like.
Speaker BMust have been just on the cusp of the actual.
Speaker AYou would have loved our room.
Speaker ANow, it was the farthest room from anything possible.
Speaker BSo we wouldn't have loved your room is what I'm saying.
Speaker DWould not have loved it.
Speaker DMy feet.
Speaker BThat's why we love the preferred room.
Speaker BRight next to the Skyliner.
Speaker AWe were.
Speaker AWe were in the 50s section, and I think we were building two.
Speaker AIs that right?
Speaker DWhatever the farthest one was.
Speaker AI think it was building two.
Speaker AIt's the one there.
Speaker AI think it's the.
Speaker AWhat's the thing in the jukebox call where you flip everything?
Speaker AIt has the big statue of that with all the bands on it.
Speaker AWe were in the building that was next to him, and we were on the fourth floor at the farthest possible point.
Speaker ABut it was great.
Speaker AIt was very quiet.
Speaker BNice.
Speaker AAnd at Pop Century, the.
Speaker AI mean, there was an option to, like, book, like the, like views and whatnot.
Speaker AIt's an outdoor resort.
Speaker AI'm not sure why you would need a view at Pop Century.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ABut to each their own.
Speaker AYou know, for us, we.
Speaker AWe were park till we drop and drop we did.
Speaker ABut for pop sentry, you're.
Speaker AWe're sleeping there and that's about it.
Speaker BOkay, so it was perfect for us.
Speaker BSo you.
Speaker BYou'd say a pop again is what I'm hearing.
Speaker A100.
Speaker BNice.
Speaker AWe love Pop Century.
Speaker BNow, if you had to do a different resort and say papa's Book, but you're still going to go, where would you want to stay?
Speaker BWhere do you think you'd want to go?
Speaker ASo are you talking dream resort or like financially responsible resort?
Speaker BGive me both.
Speaker BThose are two different things.
Speaker BGive me both.
Speaker AI think financially responsible, I would.
Speaker AI would probably go to one of the Skyliner resorts just to stay on it.
Speaker AFinancially irresponsible.
Speaker AI'm going to the Beach Club.
Speaker AEmily heard me talk about that a lot.
Speaker AShe did not like it.
Speaker BOh, well, you can't go wrong with the Beach Club.
Speaker BI will say if you.
Speaker BEspecially if you want to use their pool.
Speaker BPool's fantastic.
Speaker BAnd you're still close to the Skyliner.
Speaker AConvince her I'm all in.
Speaker DI would stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Speaker BOh, that's a good call, too.
Speaker DThat's an animal safari view room.
Speaker DThat's where I would be.
Speaker AI can't argue that one.
Speaker AThat's a good option.
Speaker BDo you concur?
Speaker CAbsolutely.
Speaker CAnimal Kingdom's my favorite.
Speaker CIt's my favorite Splurge Wilderness Lodge though.
Speaker DEvery time we go and visit there, I do like the vibes.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker BNice.
Speaker AI like the boat access to Magic Kingdom from Wilderness Lodge.
Speaker AEvery year on our last day, we just resort hop and just check out other resorts.
Speaker AWe always take the boat from Magic Kingdom to Wilderness.
Speaker BLod.
Speaker AGood call.
Speaker BAll right, so you're there.
Speaker BYou've checked into the room?
Speaker ASort of.
Speaker AWe checked in on the app, but our room wasn't ready yet.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AAnd so you gave me the great tip.
Speaker AJust drop your bags off at baggage.
Speaker AThey'll take care of it.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ASo we went to baggage checked our bags.
Speaker ANo issues.
Speaker AThey said they would take our bags to our room when it became open.
Speaker AI'm sure they would have.
Speaker AWe dropped it off, went to Magic Kingdom and by about one o' clock I was not going to make it.
Speaker AAnd we had the extra evening hours.
Speaker AAnd I knew if I didn't go to sleep, we were not going to be going to the Magic Kingdom.
Speaker AExtra evening hours.
Speaker AI was dying.
Speaker AWe got up at 3 o' clock in the morning to hit the flight.
Speaker AAnd Emily also agreed she needed a nap as well.
Speaker BNothing wrong.
Speaker BYou guys did get up really early.
Speaker AOh, we did.
Speaker BThat's early fight.
Speaker AWe went there to see if they still had our bags.
Speaker AI'm sure they would have moved them had we been in the parks all day.
Speaker ABut it was no big deal.
Speaker AThey found them really quick.
Speaker AWe went to the room and and had a wonderful three and a half hour nap.
Speaker BNice.
Speaker BNice.
Speaker BSo you took your nap.
Speaker BTell me about the extra hours event.
Speaker ASo I don't really read things when I buy them.
Speaker AIt drives Emily insane.
Speaker BEmily just rolled her eyes.
Speaker BIf you could hear that at home.
Speaker AI thought we were just buying the three extra hours in the park with less wait time, which I was perfectly happy with.
Speaker ASo we get in there to the parks and a bunch of the cast members like, yeah, make sure you go get your wristband.
Speaker ASo if you can write deal on the rides, no problem.
Speaker AI was unaware that they were giving out that including the ticket, you could get water pop, I believe, popcorn and ice cream sandwiches.
Speaker AWe were able to hydrate responsibly.
Speaker ANice.
Speaker AIn the evening.
Speaker AAnd then I did kill a couple Mickey bars as well.
Speaker AA wonderful surprise.
Speaker AIt was like extra magic as you.
Speaker BWould have to do for extra magic hours.
Speaker BExtra magic was right in the name.
Speaker BIt's there.
Speaker AI can't tell if she's laughing at me or with me right now.
Speaker BI'm pretty sure it's at Emily.
Speaker BWere you all hydrated as well and correctly.
Speaker BMickey Bard.
Speaker DA couple bites of Mickey Bars, but a lot of coke and a lot of Sprite.
Speaker DOkay.
Speaker DDown.
Speaker BNice.
Speaker DYes.
Speaker BSo did you stay for the duration of that event then?
Speaker AWe did.
Speaker ASo we probably got back to the magic kingdom around 6:30, 7:00, if I had to guess.
Speaker AAnd then we were there till it closed at 1 o'.
Speaker AClock.
Speaker AWe hit every ride we wanted to.
Speaker AWe only do one Magic Kingdom day and we hit everything except Tiana's.
Speaker AI haven't been on Tiana since.
Speaker AIt was Splash Mountain and we wanted to hit it.
Speaker AWe ended up watching some of the parade, walked across the street and it was closed and it did not go back up.
Speaker ASo that was upsetting.
Speaker AWe'll have to go back and take care of that.
Speaker AWe did get to ride the big Thunder Mountain on the new track.
Speaker AMuch better.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AIt was a great reefer.
Speaker ANot as jolty anymore.
Speaker AAnd then we did the new Buzz Lightyear.
Speaker BOh, tell us about that.
Speaker AIt was different.
Speaker BThey.
Speaker AI think they changed what some of the targets are worth because I was hitting the old targets and not getting as much points.
Speaker BYep, yep, yep.
Speaker BThey redid the whole scoring system.
Speaker AI should have done my research.
Speaker AI still won.
Speaker AI still beat Emily.
Speaker AThat's important to know.
Speaker BWow.
Speaker BThere's another eye roll from Emily, by the way.
Speaker BKeep me smarter.
Speaker DHard to do.
Speaker DI'm terrible at that ride.
Speaker DAwful.
Speaker AWe did that.
Speaker AI did.
Speaker ALike how you could, you know, move the gun around now instead of it being stuck.
Speaker AAnd then unfortunately, my all time favorite ride was closed for refurbishment.
Speaker AI'm still upset about the carousel progress under refurb.
Speaker AI'm confident they're gonna get it right.
Speaker AI'm hoping D23 tonight gives us some answers.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AIt's a national treasure and I'm worried about it, so.
Speaker BNoted.
Speaker AAnd we also found out I'm too fat to ride on Tron.
Speaker AOh, we found that out too.
Speaker COh, I can't even go there, baby.
Speaker AWe get.
Speaker AListen, with all the spring rolls that we ate, I was told these cheeseburger spring rolls were magical and they were.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AYeah, I put a couple down.
Speaker AThat must have been the.
Speaker AThat that put me over.
Speaker BWell, you also mentioned ice cream bars and.
Speaker AYeah, well, you know.
Speaker BSo what are you gonna do?
Speaker AYeah, you know, we waited in the evening hours.
Speaker AWe still waited like what, 45 minutes probably.
Speaker DLeast.
Speaker AAt least.
Speaker AAnd this is.
Speaker AThis is not my opinion.
Speaker ABecause I was too fat for the bike.
Speaker AIt's not my opinion, but I don't think it's worth anything more than a 45 minute wait.
Speaker AThe ride is 70 seconds long.
Speaker BThat's true.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker AI, I thought it'd be longer.
Speaker AI like, I know the big part of the ride is where you're outside under the dome.
Speaker ACan you want to call it?
Speaker AI thought there'd be more inside.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AThere was not.
Speaker AI don't skip leg day, which is why I didn't fit.
Speaker AJust FYI.
Speaker BIt was a.
Speaker BIt was a leg thing for you.
Speaker AIt was definitely a leg thing.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ACuz I was worried about Flight of Passages as well, but because you're just sitting, it was perfectly fine.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ACuz I, I went and I.
Speaker AThey say pull the bar back and it took all of one bar where I was like, yeah, it's not going to happen.
Speaker AI just, you know, I have, I have very big calves and so I was just.
Speaker AI was screwed off the rip.
Speaker AThe one guy's like, we got the accessibility with the back.
Speaker AThat's fine.
Speaker AIt doesn't bother me.
Speaker ASanta sle.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AOh, I. I heard.
Speaker AWe know you know the Santa slay well.
Speaker ASo, I mean, I went back there and Emily, I, I said, hey, just stay here on the bike.
Speaker AShe goes, no.
Speaker AAnd she said it hurt her hips.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker DI don't think it would have been a good time, but.
Speaker ASo we were.
Speaker AIt was, it was fun, but I really think it's like a one and done for me.
Speaker AI don't really think it's worth it.
Speaker AAgain.
Speaker BYou think if I get in the back of that again, I'm going to yell mush right before it takes off?
Speaker AWhy do you give me the good idea?
Speaker CI'm not going with you anymore.
Speaker CI cannot even with you.
Speaker BOh, brother.
Speaker CJust find a new Disney person.
Speaker BSo if anybody does that, make sure if you're in the back there, just yell mush before it goes.
Speaker BLet's make that a thing.
Speaker BIf it's Christmas, you could probably do the on Dancer, on Dasher, on Prancer and Vixen.
Speaker CDon't encourage him, Mom.
Speaker AIt's pretty funny.
Speaker BI know funny.
Speaker BAnd that was funny.
Speaker BYou think I was planning that ahead of time?
Speaker BAnd yet I did.
Speaker AI will say you had a.
Speaker AWe had a wardrobe malfunction on day one.
Speaker BWhat'd you do?
Speaker AEmily had great outfits picked out and she looked great.
Speaker BHuh.
Speaker ABut she did not calculate the proper shoes for Walt Disney World.
Speaker BOh.
Speaker AOh.
Speaker AShe had the A N. Everything matched.
Speaker APictures are great.
Speaker BEmily you can correct them at any point.
Speaker BYou have a microphone.
Speaker ABut I saw the blister she had.
Speaker AI'm right.
Speaker DI mean, who knew $9 Walmart shoes would just not be it?
Speaker DBut they worked.
Speaker AThey did work.
Speaker AThe outfit, it was a matching blue with the skirt she had on from Magic Kingdom.
Speaker AIt worked great.
Speaker AAnd for the first time.
Speaker AAnd I think I've been to Walt Disney World, it's got to be 30 plus times now.
Speaker AI think I finally had to figure out where the first aid stations were.
Speaker DI'm almost only naturally that it was with me.
Speaker AI will say I was.
Speaker AI was kind of nervous about going to first aid because, you know, I didn't know if they were going to like make us sit there and, you know, actually see somebody.
Speaker AAll she needed was just really big band aids.
Speaker AI went to the pop century, like, little store they have there.
Speaker AI bought some bandage.
Speaker AThey just weren't big enough.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AFor like the heel.
Speaker AAnd so we walked up and of course they're very nice.
Speaker AAnd you know, Emily says, I have these really bad blisters.
Speaker AAnd the guy goes, oh, here's two different style bandages.
Speaker AHere you go.
Speaker AAnd we just did that the rest of the trip.
Speaker AAnd I don't think there was any issues after that.
Speaker AWas there on your end?
Speaker BNo.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI mean, so that was great.
Speaker AI'm sure they probably liked getting us in and out too.
Speaker AJust bandages and get out.
Speaker BOkay, so, Emily, you can hop in on this one.
Speaker BSo you've been to Disney?
Speaker BBoth, dude.
Speaker BWe'll just say roughly 30 times.
Speaker BSomewhere around there?
Speaker AI think so.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI wouldn't be surprised.
Speaker BHow did you get lost a couple times in the park and didn't know where things were?
Speaker AIt was so bad.
Speaker DListen, I went with the wrong Scott.
Speaker AIt was so bad, Dad.
Speaker AI thought the Haunted Mansion was near Tomorrowland.
Speaker AI'm not sure how I messed that up.
Speaker BWas this before you were properly hydrated?
Speaker BBecause maybe there was an issue.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AI couldn't even find part of Haunted Mansion.
Speaker CScreams Tomorrowland.
Speaker DWell, he couldn't find cosmic rays.
Speaker AHe couldn't find cosmic rays.
Speaker BHow do you not find cosmic rays?
Speaker AListen, Epcot Hollywood Studios.
Speaker AI'm great.
Speaker BI'm okay.
Speaker BQuestionable.
Speaker ABetter than Magic Kingdom.
Speaker AI couldn't find cosmic rays.
Speaker AI was like, let's get cosmic rays for lunch.
Speaker AI walked into whatever pavilion is next to the Monsters Inc.
Speaker ALaugh floor as you're going back toward the castle.
Speaker AI walked in, said, this isn't cosmic rays.
Speaker AAnd then we ended up at Casey's Corner.
Speaker ACuz I couldn't find cosmic rays.
Speaker DAnd people wonder why my feet hurt.
Speaker BRight?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AI did not help.
Speaker BI just helped the team.
Speaker ADid not help the team.
Speaker BNo, we didn't get there yet.
Speaker BBut you also couldn't find Norway.
Speaker BBut that's another story for a little.
Speaker BProbably a little down the road a little bit.
Speaker AMiss it.
Speaker AI just didn't know which way I was going.
Speaker AI ran into it by accident.
Speaker BHow long did it take to get back to your room from the event?
Speaker AI believe we hit a bus instantly.
Speaker AWe had to stand on the bus, which was fine.
Speaker AI'd say probably 20 minutes if that.
Speaker AI.
Speaker BThey had.
Speaker AThey had buses moving okay.
Speaker AWhich was nice.
Speaker BCuz you went there like not long after they started the whole bus crackdown thing on no people.
Speaker AYeah, we didn't have any issues with that.
Speaker AWe.
Speaker AWe didn't go to Disney Springs either.
Speaker AProbably didn't see any of it.
Speaker B20 Minutes, that's not bad.
Speaker BLast thing you want is like an hour trip back after.
Speaker BOh, I know all those steps.
Speaker ABut I'm sure Disney knows that they want people out of the parks anyway.
Speaker AI'm sure they had extra buses rolling cuz.
Speaker AOh, there were a lot of buses that we saw pulling in at the same time.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BAll right, so you go back.
Speaker BWhat was your plan for your next day?
Speaker BWhat'd you do?
Speaker AWe were Hollywood studios.
Speaker AThat's our favorite one.
Speaker AI was able to get a lightning lane for Slinky Dog, which is very hard to get.
Speaker AI found out I booked my lightning lane seven days out and the earliest time I could get was like four o'.
Speaker BClock.
Speaker BWow.
Speaker ASo I mean, they, they are moving.
Speaker AAnd of course Emily puts me on the Tower of Terror again.
Speaker AI don't hate the ride.
Speaker AI don't dislike it.
Speaker AI love it.
Speaker AUntil it starts dropping me and then it freaks me out.
Speaker BI just agree.
Speaker AMy butt leaves the seat and I just.
Speaker AIt freaks me out.
Speaker AAnd of course, Emily's holding on to me as if I'm going to save her and I'm trying to save myself out here.
Speaker AIt's just a downhill spiral.
Speaker BNo, that's not a spiral.
Speaker BYou're just going down.
Speaker BBut still, that's a different ride altogether.
Speaker BYou're in a free fall.
Speaker BAnd he's not going to be able to help you with that one at all.
Speaker DProbably not.
Speaker BAll right, what else do you do at Hollywood Studios?
Speaker AWas that our primetime day?
Speaker DYes, it was.
Speaker AWe were at 50s primetime and cousin Michael was on me like a fly on poop.
Speaker AI kept putting my elbows on the table, and he was not having it.
Speaker AI mean, he wasn't even in the.
Speaker AI swear, he wasn't even, like, in the.
Speaker AWhere our table was.
Speaker AAnd I heard him.
Speaker AElbows on the table.
Speaker AGeez, I'm getting yelled at.
Speaker AHe was on it.
Speaker ALeft Emily alone the whole time, of.
Speaker BCourse, because she's perfect.
Speaker AYeah, I know.
Speaker AShe is.
Speaker DHe knew it.
Speaker AWe did get the cornbread there.
Speaker AThat is probably our favorite cornbread on Earth.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AAnd then I got the meatloaf, which I love there.
Speaker AAnd I.
Speaker AFor what did you have the roast beef?
Speaker DThe pot roast.
Speaker AThe pot roast.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AIt was all very, very good.
Speaker BNice.
Speaker BWhat's your favorite there?
Speaker CThe meatloaf.
Speaker C100%.
Speaker CExcept for the green beans.
Speaker CI don't like the green beans.
Speaker AI have two stickers in my wallet because Emily and I were part of the clean plate club.
Speaker CYeah, I was not.
Speaker BOkay, so you had dinner.
Speaker BHow'd you fill out the rest of your day at the studios?
Speaker AWe did hit the Rock and Roller Coaster with the Muppets.
Speaker ANow.
Speaker AI don't hate it.
Speaker AI do Miss Aerosmith.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AI think my feelings on the Rock and Roller Coaster will depend on how good Monsters, Inc. Land is.
Speaker AI think if they mess that up and they're really upset, the Muppets are gone and Aerosmith's gone.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AIf they get it right, I think I'll be okay with Aerosmith going, all right.
Speaker AI think that's what it's going to come down to.
Speaker AI think they did what they do on Guardians.
Speaker AAre there different songs on Rock and Roller Coaster now?
Speaker AYes.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker ABecause someone was talking, and I don't know how anyone hears the song because I'm worried, You know, we're spinning through the dark.
Speaker ASo I didn't really even hear the songs, but someone was saying, oh, I wish we would have got this song.
Speaker AAnd, oh, yeah, Even hear the music on that one.
Speaker AMaybe Emily heard it better.
Speaker AI didn't.
Speaker DNo, I'm too busy worried about my neck breaking on the ride.
Speaker BOh, there you go.
Speaker BIt's part of the thrill.
Speaker BIt's true.
Speaker AAnd then, of course, we hit Toy Story Mania.
Speaker AEmily, how'd you do in Toy Story Mania?
Speaker ADid you beat me?
Speaker BNo, I just like to point that out.
Speaker CWow.
Speaker DWhat a rude move.
Speaker BWell, we raised them better in that.
Speaker BI don't know what to tell you, Emily.
Speaker BYou signed up for it.
Speaker DI did.
Speaker BAll right.
Speaker CShe did it on purpose, too.
Speaker BSo true.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AThe only gripe I have right now with Disney, and I don't know how you fix it.
Speaker AThe Line cutting.
Speaker AOh, egregious.
Speaker AThis wow.
Speaker ARound.
Speaker AI listen.
Speaker ANo.
Speaker ANo one.
Speaker AI don't know anyone on earth that has a problem with like, a mom or a dad and a little kid cut in front of you to go back to where they're at.
Speaker AThat doesn't bother me.
Speaker ABut there were groups of like five, six, seven people.
Speaker BHuh?
Speaker ASaying like, oh, my party's up there.
Speaker AAnd then if, you know, you let them through.
Speaker ABecause, I mean, I'm not trying to get an altercation at Disney.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AThis is.
Speaker AWe're recording this around the time where that Flight of Passage video came out where there's like, oh, yeah.
Speaker AWhere there's that.
Speaker ASo I'm not trying to get in a physical altercation.
Speaker CRight.
Speaker ADisney, of course.
Speaker ASo you just let him through.
Speaker ABut Emily and I had talked about it.
Speaker ALike, maybe we should just say that and get to the front.
Speaker ALike, who's going to say anything to us?
Speaker AMy luck.
Speaker ASomeone would say something.
Speaker AI'd be like, I don't know.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker ABut that.
Speaker AI don't know how you fix it.
Speaker AI don't know if there's a way to fix it because I'm sure you're not going to post cast members up throughout ride cues.
Speaker BI'm sure.
Speaker ABut I feel like something's got to get done because it was.
Speaker AIt was bad at a couple of the parks.
Speaker AIt wasn't really bad Monday through Wednesday or Thursday.
Speaker AOver the weekend, though, it was.
Speaker BIt.
Speaker AIt was pretty bad because we were there Monday to Monday.
Speaker BI will say, one, Disney really needs to probably keep an eye on that.
Speaker BThey need to come up with some kind of system.
Speaker BMaybe an extra cast member in there, try to keep things in order.
Speaker BTwo, I'm impressed you use the word egregious.
Speaker CI am a language arts.
Speaker BI'm.
Speaker AI'm an English teacher, dude.
Speaker BYeah, but use it in a sentence.
Speaker BI'm impressed.
Speaker BThanks, man.
Speaker CMy baby's smart.
Speaker AI know, I know.
Speaker AMy wife's smarter than me, but dang, man, no.
Speaker DHe said that word and I was like.
Speaker BEven then, he was like, wow, my.
Speaker ACousin Nick's next to me.
Speaker BDid you bat an eye?
Speaker BI sure did.
Speaker AYou gotta help me out.
Speaker AOne fan.
Speaker AJust once.
Speaker BWe're all just having fun.
Speaker BThat's all we're doing.
Speaker BBecause I messed up on the time of D23.
Speaker AGotta kill the time somehow.
Speaker AWe're still 2 hours and 18 minutes out.
Speaker BSo what were your high points at the studios?
Speaker DI like Minnie and Mickey's Runaway.
Speaker AThat's a good call if that's what it's called.
Speaker AI think that's grown on me.
Speaker AI was very upset when the Great Movie Ride went down.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AI think Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway does a great job.
Speaker AI still miss the Great Movie Ride.
Speaker AIt's a classic.
Speaker AI feel like with all the refurbishments, they maybe could have just updated the movies to some more current ones.
Speaker ABut I do like Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Wear away.
Speaker AWe did do Lightning Lane for that one.
Speaker BSay the crowds weren't too bad for most of your time.
Speaker ANo, we went again.
Speaker AWe went July 27th through August 3rd.
Speaker ASo Monday through Thursday.
Speaker AI mean, I think even at the Magic Kingdom, minus Tron the ride, if the most I saw a ride was like 40 minutes, which for Magic Kingdom, you'll take that any day of the week.
Speaker AAnd then Friday, Saturday, like we were at Epcot on if it was Epcot or S or Sunday.
Speaker AEpcot was busy on Sunday.
Speaker BIt was busy Saturday.
Speaker ASaturday.
Speaker BHi.
Speaker AThe dick's messed up.
Speaker AIt was busy.
Speaker AWe went through World Showcase.
Speaker AWe were some friends there.
Speaker AWe'll talk about that.
Speaker ABut it was busy.
Speaker AYeah, I'm sure it's a lot of adults drinking around the world.
Speaker AI think the other side of the park probably wasn't as bad, but the World Showcase side was.
Speaker AIt was popping.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BRight now, did you have any snacks or anything besides your prime time lunch there?
Speaker DI had a cannoli.
Speaker BWhere'd you get the cannoli?
Speaker DI can't remember.
Speaker DI'm the worst.
Speaker DThere is the place.
Speaker DThat's the Rosie Quick service place.
Speaker CWhat's it called?
Speaker BRosie the Riveter or something or other.
Speaker DAnd it's like the Italian.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker DQuick service right next to it.
Speaker DBomb.
Speaker BNice.
Speaker DYes.
Speaker DI just can't remember what it was called.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ASay we really.
Speaker AI, I.
Speaker AThe only thing I was really buying was a lot of red Powerades.
Speaker AI was, I was drinking a lot.
Speaker AIt was hot.
Speaker AI mean, I think our average temp was like 92 to 94.
Speaker AWas hot outside.
Speaker DThat's when we had those frozen Minute Maid drinks too.
Speaker AOh, yes.
Speaker AWe got like on the boat.
Speaker AThe boat in the middle.
Speaker AEmily got a regular frozen lemonade.
Speaker AAnd then I got a, a blue raspberry one.
Speaker BFrozen lemonade.
Speaker AThose were really good.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AThe one thing we noticed this time is our previous two trips were like weekend trips.
Speaker ASo you feel the need to get everything in right when you're there.
Speaker AFor six days we were happily sitting down.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYou know, drinking some lemonade.
Speaker ANot really in a rush.
Speaker AThat was very nice this time around.
Speaker BThat's a good call.
Speaker AWe enjoyed that.
Speaker ASpeaking of Hollywood studios, the ABC commissary.
Speaker AReally good quick service when we were there with you guys back in 21.
Speaker ASo 2021, they didn't let you in there unless you had a mobile app reservation.
Speaker BOh.
Speaker BPost Covid stuff.
Speaker AThey changed that.
Speaker BAnd it.
Speaker AIt kind of sucked because we went in there to get food and you could not find a seat anywhere because it started raining.
Speaker AEveryone from the outside just came in and there were people that had no intention of getting food.
Speaker AThey were just there.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AAnd so that.
Speaker AThat kind of sucked.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AI'm sure if it wouldn't have been raining, it probably wouldn't have been an issue.
Speaker ABut that kind of sucked when you're.
Speaker AWhen you have a tray of food you can't even find anywhere to sit down.
Speaker AAnd with people that have no intention of eating.
Speaker BGotcha.
Speaker AI kind of wish they would bring that back a little bit.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ABut that's, you know, it's neither here nor there.
Speaker AThat's just Steve's hot take of the day.
Speaker BNothing wrong with that take.
Speaker AAnd then the next day was our Animal Kingdom Day.
Speaker DNo.
Speaker AEpcot Day.
Speaker DYes.
Speaker BSorry.
Speaker AThat's on me.
Speaker AI get moving.
Speaker BNext day was what?
Speaker AWe went to Epcot the next day.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker AAnd we did Spaceship Earth.
Speaker AWhich Spaceship Earth broke down on us a couple times.
Speaker BOh, on the same ride.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWow.
Speaker ANow, I don't know if it was breakdowns or they paused it to help someone in a wheelchair or something.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BI think that happens more often than people think.
Speaker AThat's what I'm probably guessing didn't bother us at all.
Speaker AEspecially it's 94 degrees.
Speaker AI'll sit in the AC.
Speaker AAnd we did do Soarin across America.
Speaker AI believe we hit it six times.
Speaker BWow.
Speaker ASo now how.
Speaker BHow do you rate it compared to the.
Speaker BWell, I don't know if I just compared to Soarin over California or Silver Soarin over the world.
Speaker BWhere would you rate it?
Speaker AI put it in the middle.
Speaker BIn the middle.
Speaker BNumber two.
Speaker BI would you.
Speaker BEmily, you're.
Speaker BBecause you're a huge fan of the Soren.
Speaker DYeah, I do love Soarin.
Speaker ADid you ever see Soaring Across California?
Speaker DI did not.
Speaker DSo I can only compare it to the world.
Speaker DBut I don't know.
Speaker DI. I really did like them equally, though, I think.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker DI think Soaring across the World had more smells.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker DUnless I dismissed it.
Speaker DI don't know.
Speaker ANo, the.
Speaker BThe most.
Speaker AThe smell I got the most of was there was a wetland scene.
Speaker AAnd so that smell was Pretty strong.
Speaker ASome of the other ones wasn't really as strong.
Speaker AI would.
Speaker AI would say Soarin across the world is better.
Speaker AI saw.
Speaker AI see what some people were upset about with the transitions between the different scenes in Soaring across the World.
Speaker ALike, you know, an eagle will fly through, and then you're at the next one or like a cloud or something.
Speaker AThis one just fades it right out and you just go to the next one.
Speaker AIt didn't bother me at all.
Speaker AI don't.
Speaker AI don't care about that stuff.
Speaker ABut some people that I read about online were really upset about that.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BBut I think that's.
Speaker DIt took us a couple times to realize what.
Speaker DOne of the scenes.
Speaker AI thought it was Chicago.
Speaker ATurns out it was.
Speaker AWas it Los Angeles?
Speaker AI think is what it was.
Speaker DI think so.
Speaker AI think it was Los Angeles at the end.
Speaker AI thought it was Chicago, but I couldn't really figure it out.
Speaker AIt was at night, which didn't help.
Speaker ATrying to figure it out.
Speaker ABut I really liked it.
Speaker AI'm sure it'll be here probably the year.
Speaker AMaybe a year and a half at least.
Speaker BI'm sure.
Speaker APlus do.
Speaker AOf course.
Speaker AI thought it was really good.
Speaker BExcellent.
Speaker BThe original Soren just had cuts between everything.
Speaker BIt was no transition at all.
Speaker BIt just was a hard, hard.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AI wonder if what.
Speaker AWhat they did with a soaring around the world.
Speaker AI wonder if people just expect more now.
Speaker BMaybe.
Speaker ABut it's weird because there were some cuts that kind of faded out and then there were some, like, good transitions.
Speaker ASo there's one with a helicopter and it flashes at you, then you're at the next one.
Speaker ASo I.
Speaker AIt's like they half did it, half didn't.
Speaker ABut again, it.
Speaker AIt didn't bother me.
Speaker AI thought it was really good.
Speaker BWhat else did you do at Epcot that day that might have been hit?
Speaker BRemy, would you like.
Speaker BDid you like Remy without the glasses?
Speaker AI did.
Speaker AI thought it was really, really good without the glasses.
Speaker AAnd I never had the.
Speaker AI think they changed for, like, motion sickness purposes.
Speaker AI never had that originally.
Speaker AI like.
Speaker AI liked it without it.
Speaker AJust so I keep my regular glasses on and not have to switch anything out.
Speaker ABut I thought it was really good with that.
Speaker AStill crazy.
Speaker AThey can make you feel like you're moving when you're not.
Speaker AMickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway does the same thing.
Speaker ATrips me out a little bit.
Speaker ABut it's really good.
Speaker AI enjoy it very much.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker AAnd then we also fit Emily's favorite, Frozen, which.
Speaker BDid you manage to find?
Speaker BNorway.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BHow'd that go.
Speaker AI don't know where we started.
Speaker AI think we started it.
Speaker AI think we went from maybe living with the land to Norway.
Speaker ASo you have to get up there through, you know where France is and take a left.
Speaker AAnd after walking for a while, I.
Speaker BThink you took the long way.
Speaker BThen we did.
Speaker DOkay.
Speaker AHey, listen, listen.
Speaker AI got us there.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BDid you walk by Mexico?
Speaker ANot the first time.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker BSorry.
Speaker AEmily, she had bandages on her feet.
Speaker BShe was fine.
Speaker BThis is on her feet.
Speaker BIt wasn't that bad.
Speaker BJust a flesh wound.
Speaker BReally?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AYou know, we're.
Speaker AWe're walking there.
Speaker AAnd Emily goes, how much longer is this?
Speaker AAnd I'm like, I don't know, because I feel like I don't think we passed it.
Speaker AShe goes, please tell me we didn't pass it.
Speaker AAnd so naturally, I don't want to miss it.
Speaker AI asked the cast member said, is Norway this way?
Speaker AHe goes, yep, three more countries.
Speaker AAnd Emily goes, oh, my gosh.
Speaker ALike, three more.
Speaker AWe made it.
Speaker AAll right.
Speaker AWe lightning lane soar.
Speaker AWe lightning lane frozen.
Speaker BOh, good.
Speaker AWell, it broke down on us.
Speaker AOh, it was.
Speaker AIt was kind of weird.
Speaker AIt got to the point where you go backwards down the hill and it just kind of stopped.
Speaker ASo you're kind of sitting there.
Speaker AAnd my dream is to get evac'd off a Disney ride, see the behind the scenes stuff.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ASo I'm getting excited.
Speaker AI'm like, we're going to get evac.
Speaker AThis is going to be great.
Speaker AAnd then the ride just moves.
Speaker AThe boat sends us down like the.
Speaker AThe Elsa animatronic is not working.
Speaker AAnd they are no music.
Speaker BThe.
Speaker AThere's no music.
Speaker AThe boats are moving.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker BWow.
Speaker AThat was kind of weird.
Speaker AIt was just the Elsa animatronic room.
Speaker AEverything else was still up and running.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker ASo it was kind of weird.
Speaker AAnd we got to do test track with the narrator, this time with a narrator.
Speaker AWell, back when we went the first time in 2021, we were with McKenzie and they were having issues with test track.
Speaker DNo, that was last year.
Speaker AIt was last year.
Speaker ALast year.
Speaker BSorry.
Speaker AAnd we're going.
Speaker AThere's no narrator.
Speaker AIt's just taking us through.
Speaker AAnd it's kind of like, well, this is kind of weird.
Speaker AAnd of course I remember test track 1.0.
Speaker ASo I'm getting mad.
Speaker AI'm like, they took away 1.0 for this.
Speaker ALike, even 2.0 was better than this, Right?
Speaker ASo we get through it.
Speaker AIt's like, all right, whatever.
Speaker ASo this time we get on and the narrator.
Speaker AWith the narrator, it's a 10 out of 10 experience.
Speaker AHighly recommend.
Speaker BWow.
Speaker BExcellent.
Speaker ASo we got to do that as well, which was really cool.
Speaker AAnd then I think.
Speaker AIs that everything we hit that day?
Speaker AOh, we always hit the Mexico boat ride.
Speaker AThat's just a classic.
Speaker AThat's good call.
Speaker BThat's a good call.
Speaker BWe got, remember.
Speaker BWe remember.
Speaker BWe got evac with.
Speaker BActually Nick was with us.
Speaker CYes.
Speaker CFrom Toy Story Mania.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker CThat was fabulous.
Speaker CCuz we had done the entire ride, had gotten our scores, everything.
Speaker CWe were like maybe two or three vehicles from being able to get off at the regular spot.
Speaker CBut yeah, they evacuated us off and then they gave us a free lightning lane to use whenever, which was really nice.
Speaker CThey didn't have to do that.
Speaker BThey didn't.
Speaker BIt was a very weak evacuation cuz like I said, we were like just three cars from the end.
Speaker BSo we just had to walk off and break through the entrance.
Speaker BWe didn't have to circumnavigate anything fun.
Speaker CNo, we did not.
Speaker CBut that's okay.
Speaker BYou remember that, Nick?
Speaker BI sure do.
Speaker BThat was an awesome day.
Speaker BThen we got a lightning lane.
Speaker BI forget where we went after that, though.
Speaker BI remember.
Speaker BWe'll probably figure it out.
Speaker CI want to say you guys used your lightning lane on Tower of Terror.
Speaker BI love that ride.
Speaker CI'm gonna say I'm pretty sure that's what you and your mom did.
Speaker CI don't know if Bruno went or not.
Speaker BMy sister's usually scared to death of that.
Speaker CI was gonna say I don't think she went, but I think you and your mom.
Speaker CYou talked your mom into using it then.
Speaker BPretty sure it was a fun time.
Speaker CYes, it was awesome.
Speaker BOkay, so anything else?
Speaker BEpcot, Any dinners, snacks?
Speaker BHey, everybody.
Speaker AThat's going to do it for part.
Speaker BOne of Stephen and Emily's Disney trip Recap.
Speaker BWe've covered getting there, the Hollywood studio, the Epcot, but we're not done yet.
Speaker BWe're going to continue on the next episode.
Speaker BWe're going to head over to the Animal kingdom.
Speaker BWe're going to share more of their food highlights.
Speaker BWe're going to wrap up the rest of the this trip, everybody.
Speaker BThanks for listening.
Speaker BYou can find me at resortloop.com, resortlooptravel.com and once again, you've been listening to the Gateway to the Magic.
Speaker BWe'll see you everybody.
